34th Annual Meeting, Tórshavn, Faeroe Islands, 31. august to 3. september 2017

The 34th NSCMID meeting was held from 31. August 2017 to 3. September 2017 in the historical capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn. The venue was the beautiful Nordic House which celebrated its 34th anniversary in 2017. With 370 attendees, 31 invited speakers, 104 accepted abstracts and 99 posters it was a succesful meeting. The gender distribution among participants were approximately half of each gender. The 370 attendees had 30 accompanying persons. The participants came from more than 20 countries including the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Belgium, Germany, UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, the Phillipines, USA and several other countries. Important topics were covered including the fields of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in a global health context with globalization, new epidemics, old epidemics, chronic viral diseases, acute viral and bacterial diseases, emerging infections, vector-borne diseases, climate change, multiresistant bacteria, the need of antibiotic stewardship, the need of infection control and other important issues related to Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. The cultural programme included the opening seremony with Faroese songs and Faroese dance where the NSCMID 2017 attendees were invited to join the Faroese dance. The NSCMID 2017 meeting was officialy opened by the Mayor of Tórshavn, Annika Olsen. The NSCMID 2017 Galla Dinner/Party was a succes with 320 participants. A social programme with toastmaster/singer with musician, songs in different languages, speeches and finally a dance band made the NSCMID 2017 Galla Dinner/Party memorable.
